Since the days of Franklin Pierce – the 14th President of the US, who served a four-year term beginning in 1853 – the President has always had a personal bodyguard. It’s a high-pressure job, the risks highlighted by the regular threats on the office from at home and abroad, and by high-profile events, like the assassination of the Kennedys. More recently, there have been ISIS threats against President Obama in 2015, and the case of Gary Gravelle, who threatened to kill Donald Trump.
